My client is a well established New Zealand manufacturing success story with deep roots in the local market and a reputation for quality, innovation and developing its people. Manufacturing is at the heart of the business, with products made onsite and supplied into the construction sector.

With a continued growth trajectory, they have created a Business Operations Manager role to enhance leadership capability and improve delivery across the organisation.

About the role

An opportunity sitting within the senior leadership team, you’ll be partnering directly with the General Manager. You will have plenty of exposure partnering with sales, marketing, finance, production, planning, governance and business performance, giving you the opportunity to contribute well beyond a single function and offer real, results driven value across the board.

This role has been designed for someone who can think commercially, operate strategically and remain close enough to the day to day business to drive operational outcomes and see the impact of their decisions, so you’ll thrive in a multi-faceted role offering both strategic and hands-on output.

This is a hands-on business leadership role with a strategic lens where you’ll help the business continue to scale in a structured and sustainable way.

You will be involved in:

• Business planning and budgeting processes
• Commercial and operational performance
• Governance, compliance, and execution discipline
• Continuous improvement initiatives
• Cross functional collaboration and accountability
• Strategic projects and business priorities
• Analysis, planning and decision support for the leadership team

Over the first 12-24 months, your focus will be on improving planning and execution, strengthening leadership capability across the business as the role takes on increasing strategic and operational influence.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for a commercially minded operational leader who enjoys working across the whole business.

You may currently be a Business Manager, Branch Manager, General Manager of a smaller business, or a senior operational leader who is looking for broader influence and responsibility. Most importantly, you will be someone with the ambition and capability to grow into a broader business leadership role over time.

Ideally you would come from a manufacturing, construction, engineering or building products environment, where commercial decisions and operational performance are closely linked.

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

• Broad business and commercial acumen
• Strong financial understanding and comfort with business performance
• Experience contributing to planning and budgeting
• The ability to influence and lead across multiple functions
• Strong analytical and problem solving capability
• A practical, hands on approach
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Experience leading managers and operating as part of a leadership team

A tertiary qualification in Business, Operations, Engineering, Commerce or a related discipline is preferred, but your ability to operate effectively will be the most important factor.
