If you're an experienced Health & Safety advisor working as an independent contractor, looking to add another quality client to your portfolio, this could be exactly the opportunity you've been waiting for
- Long-term contractor opportunity | Approx. 10-18 flexible hours per week
- Partner with an industry leading business experiencing strong national growth
- Own the Health & Safety function while maintaining your existing client base
My client is a specialist in their field with a strong presence both here in New Zealand and internationally. As one of the leading providers in their industry, they are continuing to grow and are now looking for a Health & Safety Advisor to become an extension of their team.
This isn't a full time job and it isn't intended to be. This is a long term contracting opportunity, ideal for someone who already consults with other businesses and is looking to secure another consistent client for their portfolio
What you'll be doing
This long term contract will see you partner closely with the National Operations Manager, providing practical guidance, maintaining existing policies, conducting audits, visiting sites when required and continuously improving Health & Safety practices across the business.
You will have the autonomy to manage the Health & Safety function while working closely with operational leaders to provide practical advice and support that genuinely adds value to the business.
You will be involved across the full Health & Safety function, including:
- Providing practical advice and guidance to managers, leaders and employees
- Partnering with the National Operations Manager on all Health & Safety matters
- Maintaining and continuously improving existing Health & Safety systems, policies and procedures
- Conducting workplace audits and occasional site visits
- Supporting incident investigations, risk assessments and corrective actions
- Delivering coaching, toolbox talks and Health & Safety awareness initiatives
- Monitoring compliance with New Zealand Health & Safety legislation and industry best practice
- Building relationships across the business to strengthen an already positive safety culture
So, who are you?
You are someone who enjoys building relationships just as much as ensuring compliance. You know how to provide practical advice and make Health & Safety approachable rather than overwhelming.
The key part here is you are already operating as an independent contractor (or set up to do so) and you are looking to add another long term client to your portfolio.
Ideally, you will come from a trades, engineering, manufacturing, fuel or service environment, giving you a practical understanding of operational workplaces and the ability to provide advice that's both realistic and commercially sound.
You will bring:
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Advisor within New Zealand
- Excellent knowledge of New Zealand Health & Safety legislation
- Experience conducting audits, investigations and site inspections
- A practical background within trades, engineering, manufacturing, fuel or service industries
- Outstanding communication and relationship building skills
- The ability to work independently while becoming a trusted extension of the leadership team
- Strong organisation and attention to detail
The dream situation would see you based in Auckland, however I am also open to speaking with experienced contractors located elsewhere in New Zealand who can still effectively support the business when required.
Why you'll want this opportunity
This role has been designed with contractors in mind. You will receive a retainer of approximately 10 hours per week, with the flexibility for this to increase to around 18 hours during busier periods. Some weeks may require less time, others a little more, allowing you to maintain the flexibility that comes with running your own business.
- Build a long term partnership with a nationally recognised industry leader experiencing significant growth.
- Add a stable, ongoing client to your contracting portfolio while maintaining the flexibility to work with your existing clients.
- Work across a varied and interesting business where your expertise will influence how Health & Safety is delivered.
- Join a business that values practical advice, collaboration and continuous improvement over ticking compliance boxes.
If you're an experienced Health & Safety contractor looking to add another quality client to your portfolio, then I'd love to hear from you. This is your opportunity to partner with a nationally recognised industry leader experiencing significant growth.
