Shape, develop and lead a brand new training programme that will support apprentices to succeed and build something you’re proud of.

  • Build a brand new apprenticeship programme from the ground up
  • Guide, inspire and mentor young Kiwis on their apprenticeship journey
  • Take the new lead, in a newly created role with real autonomy and a blank canvas to build on

I have partnered with a proudly NZ-owned company with a strong South Island footprint, this team is hands on, practical and genuinely invested in growing great tradespeople. They’re a medium-sized business with a family feel, big enough to offer support, small enough that good ideas flourish.

About the role

This is a newly created role, so an exciting chance to take the reins and build something meaningful from day one. You’ll design, deliver and grow a fresh Apprenticeship Development Programme, expanding it to encompass all trade apprenticeship capability frameworks.

Think, hands on workshops, skill development, compliance confidence and making sure apprentices stay on track and progress through their qualifications.

You’ll work alongside apprentices, supervisors and trade managers, becoming the go to person for training, development and practical learning.

The day to day:

  • Lead the planning, delivery and improvement of training across plumbing, gasfitting, drainlaying and wider trades
  • Build a structured apprenticeship programme that supports, guides and grows young tradies
  • Oversee assessment, verification and compliance requirements
  • Keep training aligned with industry changes and evolving business needs
  • Build strong relationships with apprentices, supervisors and training bodies

This role can be based in Christchurch or Dunedin, with some occasional travel between sites as needed.

Who are you:

You’re passionate about education and developing people, with proven experience designing training programmes that work. In this role, you’ll create a structured programme that keeps apprentices on track, ensuring assignments are completed on time, work aligns with unit standards and they progress steadily towards their qualification.

A natural mentor, confident leading from the front, you’ll take ownership of this newly created role and shape a programme you can truly put your stamp on.

You will bring:

  • Experience in trades training or apprenticeship development
  • A solid understanding of industry compliance and assessment requirements
  • Hold NZQA Unit Standard 4098 - highly desirable
  • The drive to take ownership of a role and grow it over time

What you will need:

  • Proven experience delivering or coordinating trades training
  • Familiarity with NZ compliance, assessment, and apprentice supervision
  • Strong written and verbal skills, with the ability to connect with people at all levels
  • Ability to travel occasionally between Christchurch and Dunedin (won’t be living out of a suitcase, so don't worry)

You will get:

This isn’t just another training role - it’s your opportunity to create something that genuinely shifts people’s futures.

  • A competitive salary of up to $120k and the stability of a supportive, passionate, hands on team who love what they do
  • Full autonomy to create, lead and shape a brand-new apprenticeship programme from the ground up - make this role truly your own
  • The opportunity to mentor, guide, and inspire apprentices, helping them grow into skilled, confident tradespeople
  • A practical, down-to-earth workplace where your ideas are valued and you can see the difference you make every day

If this role is ticking all (of most) your boxes, then please apply now or feel free to give Hayley at Fred Recruitment a confidential call to chat about this role in more detail.
