Financial Controller

A flexible part-time CFO role for a construction group in growth mode. M&A experience is ideal, but a sharp financial mind matters most.  

We're looking for a capable finance leader with a sharp eye for detail. Someone who's delivered for a growing business before, who knows their way around integrating systems when companies are acquired or merged, and who's genuinely good at making processes work better.

You'll work closely with a big-picture owner and a capable COO, backed by administrators and GMs across the group. This role is part advisory, part hands-on. Day to day, you'll be:

• Delivering system improvements
• Building forecasting and pricing models, using smart tech and AI where it helps
• Overseeing day-to-day transactional finance functions
• Sharpening monthly reporting so the business has what it needs to make good decisions, fast
• Guiding and training staff on financial best practice
• Overseeing Xero across the group and keeping financial controls tight
• Contributing to audits, projects, and compliance work

This is a business full of good people, led by a husband and wife team who set the tone from the top. There's plenty of banter and real collaboration here. The group currently spans four complementary construction businesses across Tauranga, Hamilton, and Auckland, with the head office in the Mount. It's a grounded, values-led crew.

You'll be a great fit if you have:

• Strong commercial experience, comfortable with the complexity of a growing, multi-entity business
• Solid Xero skills
• The confidence to work independently and juggle competing deadlines
• A sharp eye for accuracy, process, and communication across teams
• A degree, ideally backed by a CA or CPA

The details:

• Part-time, permanent. Preference is three days to start, until we are all up to speed, then it may reduce to 2 (or 2.5) days.  There is absolutely flexibility on this. 
• Based at the Mt Maunganui head office, with occasional travel to Tauranga and Hamilton
• A great team who genuinely enjoy working together
