About the Roles:

We are seeking Consultant Psychiatrists to join a supportive and well-established mental health service in the Whanganui region. With a focus on collaboration, innovation, and holistic care, this service is known for its strong multidisciplinary teams and commitment to equity. Two positions are available:

Mental Health Services for Older Adults (no on-call requirement)

  • Provide specialist psychiatric care for older adults with complex presentations.

  • Lead assessments, treatment planning, and family/whānau support.

  • Opportunities to be involved in service development, neuro-stimulation services, and quality improvement initiatives.

Adult Community Mental Health (with on-call participation)

  • Deliver comprehensive community-based care for adults with a wide range of mental health and addiction needs.

  • Lead clinical decision-making and provide supervision and teaching to junior doctors.

  • Participate in the after-hours roster across Whanganui and neighbouring districts, ensuring continuity of care.

What we’re looking for:

  • Fellowship of RANZCP (or equivalent).

  • Eligible for vocational (or provisional vocational) registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.

  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills within multidisciplinary settings.

  • Commitment to equity and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in clinical practice.

  • A passion for making a tangible difference in mental health outcomes for diverse communities.
