This well established, values driven organisation delivers complex housing and relocation projects across New Zealand. We are now seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead the safe, efficient and profitable delivery of our housing operations.

This is a senior, hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in operational ownership, enjoys being close to the action, and knows how to turn strong planning and disciplined execution into consistent results.

The Role

Reporting to the General Manager, Housing Division, the Operations Manager takes full accountability for delivery once work is commercially agreed. You will own the plan and the outcome, ensuring work is properly sequenced, resourced, and executed to margin, safety and quality expectations.

This is not a desk bound role. You will spend time on site supporting foremen, reviewing productivity, managing machinery and addressing delivery risk, while also leading planning, scheduling and performance from the office.

Sales prepares the work, you decide whether we can deliver it safely, productively and profitably.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Planning, scheduling and sequencing work to ensure safe, efficient and profitable outcomes
  • Approving pricing and signing off delivery risk before work proceedsLeading site execution, productivity and quality with a strong field presence
  • Managing plant and machinery utilisation, availability and maintenanceBuilding and leading a practical, respected health and safety culture
  • Leading and developing the Foreman and operational teams through clear expectations and accountability, particularly for safety and behaviour
  • Work closely with sales, operations administration and finance to ensure smooth handovers, clean delivery and protected margins

What success looks like

The right work is accepted and poor fit work is declined early. Jobs run to plan with high productivity and minimal rework. Crews and machinery are well utilised. Gross margins are delivered. Safety incidents are rare and well managed. The General Manager is not firefighting day to day operational issues.

About you

You are a confident operational leader with a strong construction background and real site credibility. You bring proven experience leading delivery teams, managing plant and machinery, and making sound decisions under pressure.

You are practical, direct and respectful in your communication style, lead from the front, and take pride in delivering work to a high standard. Experience in house removals, heavy haulage or complex logistics is highly desirable, as is familiarity with council inspections and compliance.
