Operations Manager

This is a senior Operations Manager role within a well-established, high-performing food manufacturing business. The operation is stable, efficient, and well run, with strong systems, automation, and a committed leadership team already in place. The focus of this role is not fixing problems, but leading the next phase of improvement, capability, and growth.

This business is unique. It successfully operates both a retail arm and a wholesale manufacturing operation, supported by automation, smart processes, and a committed leadership team. Growth is very much on the agenda, and this role will play a critical part in shaping what comes next.

The role

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across the manufacturing and retail operations. Your key direct reports include the Bakery Manager and Retail & Catering Manager, and you’ll lead a wider site leadership structure. The team is known for their work ethic, humility, and genuine care for their people.

You will be visible on the floor and hands-on in leadership, coaching, and driving standards.  Your focus will be on continuous improvement, capability building, and future planning. The operation already runs well. Success in this role will come from making smart, incremental improvements and lifting those around you.

In the first 12 months, you will lead further machinery automation, drive the capital plan, and continue to strengthen health and safety practices across the business. You’ll also hold accountability for site performance including delivery, cost control, food safety systems, GMP, and audit readiness.

Experience matters here. You will bring proven leadership maturity, wisdom, and emotional intelligence, with clear evidence of having led teams successfully in complex environments.

You will also bring:

• FMCG/food manufacturing leadership experience with strong commercial and people leadership capability
• Strong capability in LEAN manufacturing and ideally Six Sigma
• A track record of leading improvement projects and automation initiatives
• Deep understanding of health and safety in a manufacturing setting
• The ability to connect authentically with people and earn trust quickly
• A leadership style grounded in respect, consistency, and follow-through
