The role 

My client is a household name with a decades long reputation providing fleet solutions to the NZ market.  We are looking for someone who loves to make deals, but also knows how to build relationships that actually last.

My client is a well-established vehicle rental business, and they're growing. There is now for the first time, a newly created sales position up for grabs, for a highly reliable, consistent and down to earth BDM.  You will need a sharp, motivated personality, understand how to curate and negotiate a deal, and above all, be someone who very much wants to be a part of the growth story, the team, and the journey, focusing entirely on quality relationships and sales to bring in more commercial clients and keep the ones we've got very happy.

This isn't a behind-the-desk role. You'll be out there identifying opportunities, having real conversations with businesses in construction, film, logistics, trades, and tourism, and figuring out how to get them the vehicles they need. You'll also be working closely with our GM and wider team to make sure we're firing on all cylinders.  You'll need to be a strong hunter, looking for new leads, seeking out your own wins, and taking full ownership of developing new and existing business within the Auckland region. 

What you'll actually be doing

  • Finding and winning new B2B clients, corporate accounts, and government contracts
  • Breathing fresh life into exisiting and potentially under developed relationships
  • Managing and growing relationships with existing clients — not just ticking boxes, but genuinely understanding their needs
  • Keeping a close eye on the market and feeding insights back into how we price and position our fleet
  • Representing the business at industry events and networking opportunities
  • Tracking your pipeline and keeping clear reporting and updates on progress

What we're looking for

The best person for this role is someone who naturally loves sales and deal making.  You'll already have a sound base of experience  in business development, sales, or account management — ideally somewhere in vehicle rental, transport, or a related field, but attitude will trump industry. You know how to negotiate without burning bridges, and you genuinely enjoy building long-term partnerships rather than chasing one-off wins.

You're the kind of person who takes ownership, thinks strategically, but isn't too precious to roll up their sleeves.  

This role sits inside a thriving family owned and operated nationwide business, that may at times involve the odd travel outside of Auckland, though this will be minimal, with so much growth opportunities in Auckland.  

You will curate your own sales cycles and your own day; experienced enough to grow and develop quality working partnerships that are built on meaningful account care, and your follow through and delivery on service.
