A truly special community nursing role supporting people with cancer and their whānau.

  • Company Vehicle + Health Insurance (Southern Cross)
  • High Trust Model + Work Autonomously + Professional Development
  • Part Time Position (0.8FTE) + Flexible Working

Are you an experienced, confident Registered Nurse who thrives working autonomously in the community and wants to make a real difference in people’s lives?

This is a rare and rewarding opportunity to step into a highly trusted, community-based nursing role supporting people living with cancer and their whānau in their own homes.

This is not a ward-based role. It is personal, flexible, relationship-driven work, best suited to a nurse who is organised, self-directed, compassionate, and genuinely values walking alongside people through some of life’s hardest moments.

The Role

This is a 0.8 FTE (28 hours per week) position, working Monday to Thursday, with flexibility built in. You will manage your own caseload end-to-end and have the autonomy to shape your day based on client needs.

  • Provide community-based nursing support to people with a cancer diagnosis and their whānau.
  • Conduct home visits across the Rodney region as far north as Wellsford.
  • Complete holistic assessments and provide practical, emotional and educational support.
  • Offer phone-based triage, follow-ups and cancer information support.
  • Coordinate care and referrals with health providers and community services.
  • Complete admin, documentation and care planning on non-visit days.
  • Be part of a wider, multidisciplinary supportive care team.

This is an extremely autonomous role. You will organise your own visits, manage your own schedule, and take full ownership of your caseload with strong backing from a very experienced and supportive wider team.

The Team & Culture

While you’ll work independently day-to-day, you are very much part of a close-knit, values-driven team. The wider nursing team is highly experienced, collaborative, and made up of many long-standing staff who are always willing to support one another and share their knowledge and experience.

You will be fully supported with onboarding, professional development and regular virtual catch-ups with the small team of nurses working across the wider region.

This organisation is known for being flexible, human and deeply supportive if you’re unwell or on leave, you are covered. There is a strong emphasis on wellbeing, trust and sustainability.

About You

This role will suit a nurse who is confident working independently and values community-based care.

  • Registration as a Registered Nurse with a current NZ APC
  • Solid nursing experience (community experience highly advantageous)
  • Confidence working autonomously and managing a caseload
  • Excellent organisation, communication and time-management skills
  • A warm, calm and empathetic approach
  • Cultural awareness and commitment to culturally safe practice
  • A full NZ driver licence and comfort being on the road most days

Oncology experience is not required - full cancer-specific training and ongoing professional development will be provided.

What’s On Offer

  • A deeply meaningful, people-centred nursing role
  • Exceptional autonomy and flexibility
  • Full use of a vehicle for work (all work-related costs covered)
  • Birthday leave, annual leave, sick leave and strong wellbeing support
  • Professional development and support toward maintaining your APC

This role is ideal for a nurse who wants to slow down, work more independently, and build real relationships in the community while still being well supported by a values-led organisation.
